Poetry Friday

I think that poetry friday has greatly affected me and how I write my poems and I am very glad we got to do that this year. Instead of learning about a normal poem we got to learn and see different kinds of poems you can write. We also learned about great poets and there life and how they expressed how they felt about this world and there life and it really came out good. We also learned about books that are poems on each page. I loved doing the poems because I thought we could really put what we were feeling and our emotions into the poems.

Title: Life in prison

Author: Stanley "Tookie" Williams

This story takes place in the notorious San Quentin prison. "Tookie" tells the hard times of having to be in prison for the rest of his life and being on death row and how that effects others. He was involved in a gang as a teenager and wants nothing more but to help other teens in making the right decisions about life and being in gangs. When you read this story you will be greatly appreciated with the home you have you will learn how prison can greatly effect your life and others. I recommend teenagers to read this book because it really takes an effect on you and teaches you to not brake the law. This book is a very short read but there is a lot you learn. When you read this book it's in the form where "Tookie" is talking and is the narrator of the story. Here is a quote that he said in his book about being alone in a cell: "To get a feel for what it's like to live in a prison cell, test yourself. Spend ten hours nonstop alone in your bathroom".

Clothing and fashon

Clothing and Fashion:

Some of the clothing that they wore back then were kind of similar to what we wear now. Men and women had the same kind of style.

Tankard: A drinking mug that they wear on there sides

Shirts: They had long sleeves and they were normal colors

Capes: It’s like a cloak, it it decorated with different colors and shapes

Cloak: Hooded and often goes all the way down to your feet, designed for warmth

Muffin Cap: A floppy garment with a loose top

Biggins: It keeps the head warm, like a hat some of the hats that children where.

Back then they thought that all of these colors for there clothing were symbolic:

• red for blood and passion,
• yellow for the sun, and optimism,
• white for purity,
• black for death, evil, and depression.

Poetic pictures

Who: His name is Wayne he is in his late 30's

When: Summer of 1931. He is trying to take a look at the dust bowl and cant believe that his whole life is crashing down.

Where: Outside of his house doesn't know what to do.

What: He is looking at the dust coming toward him trying to keep the hat on his head. He Is terrified but determined to make it through.

How: Him and his family of five are going to try to make it, there farm and house is coming down fast. He wants to protect his family and move along quickly. Maybe trying to save some things.

Why: Once again he is determined to keep his family safe and survive. He believes his family comes first. He will do whatever it takes to save them.

Women's fashion in the 1930's

The women from the 1930's wore dresses around the house to clean and stuff it was called a regular house dress. They had lots of details like ruffles and bows, buttons and they can be worn to work or to a date. Question #1. Do we wear things they wore in the 1930's in our holds? The answer to that question is no. People now a days don't really wear dresses to work sometimes they do but never at home on a regular basis. Question #2. What kind of hats did they wear and are the similar ? The kind of hats that they wear and not very popular now. Because they have made more popular different hats. The hats they had were head hugging snug hats that were very popular that were soft and slim. Question #3. What kind of coats did they wear? The coats they wore were two piece suites. The suits looked like men wore them but they did have some feminine touches to them like flattering bright colors on the linings and had some shapes too.

Gay marriage

I would like to talk about gay marriage. I think that this is a very important topic, and I think that it is very wrong. I belive that when god made a man and a woman he intendid to keep it that way, they should be able to have a relationship and do whatever they want but they shouldn't be able to get married. The thing that bothers me the most is what if your kids or mine (in the future) grow up and think it's okay and it would just be fun to have same sex marriage and have relationships when they are very young. Even though I do know some people and some friends that don't believe what i believe I'm not going to ever not speak up for what I think is right.
